I've been struggling to set up network printing from my laptop (Compaq
Presario v2000) through desktop (Compaq Presario SR2027X). I have set it
up before, with other distros, and it use to be automatic, or almost so.
But now I am using Lenny in one form or another on both machines. Mint on
the Laptop, Mepis 8 on the Desktop. Ccan't seem to make it work.
Followed this tutorial:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Networking/Setting_Up_a_Network_Printer_using_CUPS
but it didn't work. On the net, I ran across several suggestions that the
problem might be security provisions introduced into the system by Debian
but no suggestions of what to do about it.
The error I was getting was that the laptop could not connect to the
server. But it could see the server, and the printer on the server.
I tried editing the cupsd.conf directly (on the desktop) so as to include
the laptop.
*Now the laptop can not see the printer on the desktop*, and it still
can't print to it of course. Furthermore "localhosts:631" no longer brings
up the cups page.
Any clues?
Guess I'm an incorrigible nuB! or just a meddler. Dave McMullen
