There's a whole pile of military minutiae like that, which show up as
questions on oral exams for competitive promotions and such. Most of it
hinges on the definitions of terminology and historical origins. Some of
them are:
What is a "truck" and how many are on this base?
What is at the base of every main flagpole? (theoretically)
Who was the last living 5-star?
List the names of other 5-stars.
Why do we salute with palm face down?
