One feature that I haven't seen mentioned so far is membership tracking for groups within the church. Back when I first started tracking church management software, I was also tasked to assist in the transition between one "Minister of Pastoral Care" and the next. One of the things we did was start a newsletter we called "The Shepherd's Staff" to inform, equip, and encourage the group leaders. So, of course, the next step was to identify just who should get the newsletter. Within a week or two, we had identified 72 different groups in the church (counting Sunday School classes, youth groups, the choir, and home Bible study groups. I'm not entirely sure we didn't miss a few, and this is in a 700-member church. So that was one of the first things we did on the computer: start tracking members, not just on a whole-church basis, but also keeping track of who was involved with which groups and in which roles. At the very least, we could give group leaders
 updated contact lists as we got address updates from members.
