[CS-FSLUG] Post-mortem: Hardware dying?

Apparently the fault was in the video card. This was an Asus-Nvidia Riva
TNT2 AGP. I exchanged for an old 3dfx Voodoo 3000 PCI with 16MB VRAM, a
bit of a step-down from 32MB, but it doesn't appear to have harmed things.

I had Knoppix 3.7 installed but the anti-aliasing is badly broken. After
trying for two days with all the tricks I knew, it became apparent
something in the Qt-KDE-XFree86 nexus was not properly built. I gave up.
The bad fonts gave me a headache, even when using just IceWM.

I installed SUSE 9.2 -- while bloated, it's predictable. It will allow
me to go forward with the Bashix project. FreeBSD has no plans for a
framebuffer, and no plans soon to fix the inability to read my digital
camera. Finally, the port to make a driver available for my Panasonic
printer was broken. In short, all sorts of desktop stuff is broken, with
no fixes in sight.
