This gives your developers a year to get their applications ready and
tested (I think that the lack of prior developer access to the
hardware before the users got their hands on it caused some problems
back for the 68k -> PPC switch).

I would imagine that they'll continue software support beyond 2007,
but that they just won't be selling any more PPC-based Macs.
