If you would allow me, in a somewhat clumsy fashion, to jump into this
thread. 

Fred, I think you need to be careful in the generalisation of workmanship
in MS. Programmers will be doing their jobs to the best of their
ability. Whether
this means some incredibly talented programming around known bugs or
development with "maybe" inefficient tool sets.

Every now and then your comments come across as labeling MS and its 
product base as pure evil. Which I do believe is not fair.
I know a MS developer and beta tester who loves the company, and works
incredibly hard for MS. He is also devout Christian and family man who takes
incredible pride in his coding. I do know he disagrees with MS policy like 
the rest of us but he does not feel they are any eviler then say Starbucks. 

We all know MS's jaded history and how and why they have got where they are. 
But I also believe this due to hard work, fantastic company morale and
brilliant development. I think you owe MS developers all over the
world an apology.
