Just a thought, but perhaps the error message will give you a hint.  ;-)
Heh, seriously, bust out [vim|emacs] path/to/hwdep.c, head to line 27
and see what the hubbub is.  Perhaps cross reference the call to what is
listed in /usr/include/linux/module.h line 309.
