I solved the problem, I figured out it was a CS423x.

At first I tried alsaconfig, but it just couldn't find the card, so I tried 
sndconfig and I remember IBM is known for using CSxxxx sound so I tried the 
one that was most universal CS423x and it worked.

I feel like the world has been lifted off my shoulders now.

And he's a happy linux user now! :-)
