Greetings,

Gee, need a Linux OS for your laptop? May I suggest Grey Cat Linux? The URL for it is:

http://home.wanadoo.nl/peterdekoning/main.htm

Or, if you would prefer. I can e-mail it to you via a series of e-mails. I must warn you that you will need at least the ms dos file "command.com" and a fat/vfat formatted hard disk. The reason for this is that Grey Cat Linux, though a true Linux distro, boots from a directory called "c:\linux" on a dos system. Naturally you can edit the "autoexec.bat" file to automatically boot into Grey Cat Linux. I have installed Grey Cat onto my laptop and so far I like what I do see. However, until I either fix the floppy drive or else hook up the laptop to a wi-fi connection with my DSL router, I am forced to remove the hard disk from the laptop from the hard drive if I want to install new software (which I do, but I feel I can wait).

Now, just on the technical side, Grey Cat is based upon Slackware 3.5 and BasicLinux 1.0 and is what is called a "floppy" distro. This means that you will be installing via a series of floppy disks. It takes about ten disks and you will need to copy and rename linux.r00. It needs to be renamed linux.r08 or the software will not install. I have been through this process and I know what I am saying. I just hope that it helps.

In Christ,

Christopher Rose

The "Cat" is out of the bag, Grey Cat Linux
