I only tried X on OpenBSD once - I got KDE up and running without too much 
trouble, but then I read that wine didn't work on OpenBSD - this might have 
changed since, but at the time I switched to Linux for desktop - although I 
have yet to try wine on Linux.

As for Linux emulation, sometimes it's easier to find/run a Linux binary 
than it is to compile source - like when software is not open-source, for 
example.
