Well, I just thought of two examples:

Ada Augusta Lovelace, perhaps the first computer programmer in the 
world; and Rear Adm. Grace Hopper, USN, developer of the first 
compiler, the COBOL language, and all-around computer pioneer.

They did not just gained acceptance, they were the pioneers. Funny how a 
male-dominated field had their ways paved by these ladies.
