This seems to happen when I turn on „Smart Quotes“ in Apple Mail (or
rather, Core Text, as it is available in any Snow Leopard application).

Mostly true - although in theory you _could_ measure the transmitted
audio frequency range.
I have yet to see a phone review do this however.

Absolutely.

I do like the idea of Google using Linux as the kernel for Android.
Before Android, „Linux-based“ smartphones were rare, didn’t get proper
attention from commercial vendors and had a „hacker“ reputation. This
has changed.

I wonder, though, how much (and how) the Linux landscape in general
will benefit from Android.

I wonder, also, what role exactly Google will play. Now that they are
doing their own GPS mapping and routing, for example (http://abovethecrowd.com/2009/10/29
/google-redefines-disruption-the-“less-than-free”-business-model/),
the landscape will definitely change.

Regards,
