A loud clap of thunder this morning about 6:02.13 am -0400 and
thereafter a repeating light beep about every 6 seconds from my
computer. No network connection, beep was announcing retries.

Repowered modem and router three times w/o gaining net access before
putting head into gear :^(. No route to router and no dhcp.
Replaced router to no avail, exchanged cat5 cable also w/o gain.
Rebooted from a "live-cd" of openSUSE 11.0 KDE4 and manually setup the
nic. Still no network.

Powered down, replaced onboard nic with one from the junk box.
Rebooted to cmos and disabled onboard nic. Restarted openSUSE and
manually removed eth0 nic config, set config for eth1 on plugin
Linksys 10/100 nic (which I WILL replace with a 10/100/1000) and
attained network connection.

Also lost a wii which Nintendo graciously offered to repair under
warrantee (thunderstorm was not mentioned or questioned) and an under
cabinet console flip down tv/dvd/am-fm radidio (~$400).

Just wanted everyone to know that everything was going well :^).
Last week GM sent me a letter advisiing that in order to continue the
performance bonuses and unlimited insurance coverage of their
executives, they were ceasing to provide me medical coverage as I am
too old and only gave them 40+ years of service and only about 1.5
hours of unpaid service per day.

The sob Roberts (bless his dark sole) that became the head of GM
Personnel and cut salaried insurance benefits to show the union that
GM meant business at contract time (back in the '80s), then
capitulated the demands on the union and only partially restored the
denied benefits to salary, began a steady erosion of the salaried
workforce esprit de corp and benefits. It's no wonder that GM is in
the financial situation at present. No one gives a damn and the only
one held accountable is the first line supervisor.

The sun just came out. Where's my gun!
